Dr. Lea-Der Chen is a Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Iowa College of Engineering. His areas of expertise and research include combustion; thermodynamics; fluid mechanics; heat transfer; fuel cell; micro-reactors, and renewable and alternative energy. Dr. Chen joined the Iowa faculty in 1982. He earned a Master's and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; the Society of Automotive Engineers; the Transportation Research Board; the Combustion Institute; the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the American Society for Engineering Education.
